Meet Our Allied Health Professionals

Mary-Scott

Mary Scott

Psychologist

Mary has extensive experience in the provision of psychology services to people with chronic and life-changing medical conditions. Diagnosis and treatment for these conditions often causes significant distress and may have an impact on daily activities, relationships, physical well-being and life priorities. Mary provides a supportive, respectful and collaborative professional relationship to assist people to manage understandable emotional distress, as well as to learn constructive skills for managing the impact of serious illness.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Medicare Provider: Mindful health Psychology
  • Masters of Clinical Psychology from the University of Western Australia
  • BA Honours, First Class, from the University of Adelaide
  • Member of Australian Psychological Society
  • Founding Member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association

In addition to her private practice at Western Haematology and Oncology Clinics, Mary works part-time in the Breast Cancer Service at a major teaching hospital. She works collaboratively with GPs, medical teams, researchers and complementary health practitioners.

Therapeutic approaches:

Mary draws on a wide range of evidence-based therapies including mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), brief psychodynamic psychotherapy and compassion-focused therapy (CFT). With 10 years’ experience in community mental health, Mary can provide treatment for mental health conditions triggered or exacerbated by medical conditions (e.g. anxiety and depression).

Jeremy Ingram

Exercise Physiologist
Physiotherapist

At the start of 2016, Jeremy designed and opened Western Integrated Health in Subiaco. They are a boutique family feel Physiotherapy Clinic and Rehabilitation Gym with a special interest in using evidence-based, targeted exercise therapy to improve overall health and function for patients living with chronic pain, chronic disease and cancer.

The clinic is equipped with specialised rehabilitation equipment which allows patients with complex health requirements to safely participate in targeted Strength, Cardiovascular and Mobility training in an individual and group setting.

Jeremy’s work with the Bendat patients primarily involves:

  • Reducing pain and disability from cancer-related surgery
  • Maintaining muscle mass and bone density for people undergoing oncology treatment and androgen deprivation therapy
  • Reduce nausea and fatigue
  • Improving mental health through individual and group exercise
  • Maintaining overall functional capacity so patients can remain engaged in a meaningful life
  • Using exercise immediately prior to chemo/immunotherapy with the aim of improving drug delivery to target cells and enhancing cell sensitivity to medications.

Prior to 2016, he had almost two decades of experience in the health industry in a variety of Physiotherapy & Sports Science roles, including senior positions at a number of Chronic Pain clinics and West Coast Eagles & Claremont Football Clubs.

In all these roles Jeremy’s focus has been on providing a high level of patient-centred care. He has enjoyed working as part of a multidisciplinary team and understands the importance of prompt and detailed communication with referring consultants.

  • Bachelor of Science with 1st Class Honours (UWA): Exercise & Health Science

  • Masters of Science (Curtin): Physiotherapy

Loretta Byrd

Accredited Practising Dietitian

Loretta worked as a Registered Nurse in Perth and Kalgoorlie in various specialty areas such as Emergency Medicine and School Health. She always had an interest in cooking and nutrition and in latter days provided healthy food and treats for her growing family. Loretta sought further qualifications in Nutrition and Diabetes Education and then completed her Masters in Dietetics to become an Accredited Practising Dietitian. This qualification enables her to assist people in managing their specific health issues. She has experience in both private and clinical practice. She combines her passion for food with her desire to help people achieve their nutrition goals.

With a wealth of knowledge and experience, Loretta consults on a broad range of health and dietary issues. She has worked in areas such as weight loss and chronic disease management especially in diabetes, cardiovascular disease and oncology. The many qualifications she holds include:

  • Master of Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Human Nutrition
  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Health Promotion and Education

Loretta looks forward to providing our clients with the dietetic expertise they need.

Jo Oddo

Accredited Practising Dietitian

Jo has worked in various areas of dietetics, with experience in both private and clinical practice, particularly in areas of geriatrics, gastroenterology, chronic disease prevention, renal and oncology.

Jo has always had an interest in nutrition and how it influences sports performance, which led to her obtaining an additional qualification in sports nutrition and fitness. Jo is particularly passionate about educating and advising women in sport of safe and evidence -based practices, with particular focus in the areas of bodybuilding, including bikini, fitness and physique competitions as well as those participating in endurance events.

In addition, Jo has years of experience in developing and delivering education programs in food and health specifically to minesites and workplaces within rural and metropolitan areas, which have enabled to help a variety of people throughout WA. The many qualifications she holds are;

  • Master Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Completion of Sports Nutrition Certificate completed at the Australian Institute of Sport
  • Bachelor of Health Science in Nutrition and Human Biology
  • Certificate IV Fitness
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
